Why use badge holders and lanyards with your Access Control cards or fobs?
Published:  23 January, 2012

The value of promoting staff and student awareness of security within education establishments goes beyond simply keeping out unauthorised visitors.

Utilising the wide range of card & proximity fob holders together with lanyards or clips that are colour coded or better still printed with your establishment name, the prominent visibility helps staff and students quickly identify each other and role or function, it also helps ensure less damage or loss of cards and tokens.

Authorised visitors and contractors can easily be included within the process with the use of “Contactor” and “Visitor” branded ID cards and lanyards.

Visitors or newcomers to the establishment are better able to identify who to approach when needed, saving time and avoiding confusion.

Staff & students feel immediately more comfortable in identifying unauthorised visitors without the need to put themselves in a position of having to query or challenge that person’s activity within the premises.

Unless the premises are turned into a “fortress environment” with the use of full height turnstiles at all entrance or exit points, there will always be the likelihood of “tailgating” which is the process whereby unauthorised personnel enter the premises simply by immediately following an authorised access when the door is held open through politeness or simply assuming that the follower has the right to enter.

So accepting that unauthorised personnel can gain entrance, it makes sense to use these low cost visible means of identifying authorised personnel onsite.
