‘Help Your Britain’ Campaign Showcases Magic Breakfast on the Bing Homepage
BING LENDS ITS VOICE TO HIGHLIGHT THE GREAT WORK OF LEADING SCHOOLS BREAKFAST CHARITY

As part of its Help Your Britain campaign, Microsoft’s search engine, Bing.com, is today handing over its daily homepage to Magic Breakfast, enabling the charity to tell its story to Bing’s 13 million users. To mark the occasion, Bing is running an  exclusive image that celebrates Magic Breakfast’s work, as well as providing in-depth information about the charity and the work it does.

Magic Breakfast delivers free, healthy breakfast foods to UK primary schools where more than 50% of pupils qualify for free school meals because in each one of those schools, children start the day too hungry to learn. A hungry child is often unable to concentrate in class. Magic Breakfast provides a healthy breakfast to 6,000 children across the country each morning as essential fuel for learning. This improves child attendance, punctuality, concentration and behaviour – all for just 22p a day.

Magic Breakfast’s curation of the Bing homepage marks the first day of Bing’s Help Your Britain campaign. There are more than 187,000 registered charities across Great Britain with a story to be told, many of which will never be heard due to the lack of resources at their disposal. Bing is shining the spotlight on these unsung British heroes as part of a long-term campaign, enabling the British public to nominate the charities they would like to see featured on the homepage on the final Friday of each month via www.bing.com/HelpYourBritain.

Along with Magic Breakfast, charities including Lifelites, All Dogs Matter, User Voice and Life Cycle UK will also feature on the Bing homepage during the course of the week. Hot spots will provide users with additional information about the challenges each charity seeks to tackle through its work. Users can also watch in-depth videos with the founders and staff of each organisation and find out more information about each cause, including details of how they can make a donation to the featured charities, by visiting Bing’s Help Your Britain page.

Carmel McConnell, Founder, Magic Breakfast, says: “As we head into 2012, it’s hard to imagine that for one in four primary school children in this country, the only hot food they get is their free school meal. But it’s true and a hungry child cannot concentrate and make the most of their lessons. Magic Breakfast feeds 6,000 children every morning in 200 primary schools across the country and a donation of £3.50 a month, that’s just £42 a year, gives a hungry school child porridge or cereal, orange juice, and a bagel every school day for a year. The charity receives no public funds and has a team of just three. The support that Bing is providing is warmly welcomed and we are delighted to be the first charity featured in Bing’s Help Your Britain campaign.”

Peter Maxmin from Bing says: “The need for children to start the day with a healthy breakfast cannot be overstated and Magic Breakfast provides an invaluable service that ensures children across the country do not start the day too hungry to learn. It is an excellent example of the great work that smaller charities are doing to make Britain even greater. However, whilst these organisations do an outstanding job, they don’t always have the resources to raise awareness and therefore the funds necessary to keep doing such valuable work.

“Indeed, the latest Charity Forecast Survey unveiled by the National Council for Voluntary Organisations found that almost two thirds (65 per cent) of charity leaders expect their financial situation to get even worse in 2012. The Bing Help Your Britain campaign aims to give these organisations a helping hand in difficult times and we look forward to receiving nominations from the British public for the additional causes they would like to bring to the attention of our 13 million users.”
