In 2010 WJEC awarded DRS a three-year contract for use of its e-Marker® technology to electronically capture marks from candidates’ scripts. Following successful implementation over the summer 2010 and again in January 2011, significant benefits have led to WJEC utilising the e-Marker® technology on a much larger scale this year.
The e-Marker® technology provides WJEC with greater accuracy of marking and quality control, as well as improved speed of mark transmission, management data and post examination data analysis. It has also streamlined the process for WJEC examiners, releasing them from many of the administrative functions of the conventional system and allowing them to concentrate on the key task of accurate and efficient marking.
Tony Lee, DRS Chief Executive comments: “It is testament to DRS and e-Marker® that, after careful evaluation of the electronic examination marking marketplace, WJEC awarded us this contract and that the initial success has shown tangible benefits, giving WJEC the confidence to significantly increase its usage this year.”
DRS e-Marker® offers a variety of modular and scalable electronic marking methods for awarding, assessment and professional bodies and is designed to add value, enable results to be available quicker and improve accuracy and reliability of examination marking. e-Marker® harnesses the power of real-time, award winning image capture scanners, specialist bureau services – either in-country or at DRS – and sophisticated software delivered across the internet, to securely capture item-level responses and marks from examiners.
WJEC provides examinations, assessment, professional development, educational resources, access to youth arts activities and support for adults who wish to learn Welsh. It also provides examinations throughout England as well as Wales.
