Skills for a low carbon UK
Published:  06 July, 2011

Two low-carbon education schemes were announced last month as winners at the 11th annual Ashden Awards for Sustainable Energy, the world’s leading green energy awards. The Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) in Machynlleth, Wales won the award for Training in Sustainable Technologies and Severn Wye Energy Agency (SWEA) in Gloucestershire the award for the Sustainable Schools Programme.

They were among the five UK winners, all of whom are leading the way to a low-carbon society. These winners are promoting energy-saving behaviour, harnessing renewable energy, making buildings more energy efficient and developing green skills and know-how for the future.

The Ashden Awards showcase practical solutions to combat climate change, rewarding outstanding and innovative low-carbon schemes in the UK and developing countries. CAT and SWEA received their Awards from Grand Designs presenter, Kevin McCloud and will be given £10,000 to be spent on expanding their sustainable energy work.
