All schools in the UK are being invited to be part of the programme; membership is free and will enable schools to immediately carry on their Healthy Schools’ work.
In the first month, 21 schools from Milton Keynes were the first to join Schools4Life to support each other locally to tackle local health and wellbeing priorities.
“We’re delighted to continue the important work our schools are doing to support children and young people to make healthier choices, reach their full academic potential and live healthier, happier lives,” comments Sarah Conway, assistant director universal services, Children and Young People’s Services.
“Schools4Life offers us the flexibility and expertise to really tackle some of our most challenging health behaviours, helps us deliver the government’s localism agenda and is a great way to partner more effectively with schools, local organisations and parents.”
Schools4Life’s targeted support for schools is already proven as the team has worked in partnership on a similar programme known as Healthy Schools Plus in the South West. Across the region, targeted support for schools has enabled local health and education partnerships to achieve measurable improvements around some of the region’s most pressing health and wellbeing issues.
Liz Lockhart, headteacher at Queen Eleanor Primary School, Milton Keynes, who hosted the launch says: “It’s so exciting to be part of a local initiative where we can continue to show evidence of our commitment to supporting children and young people to make healthier choices – and increase their capacity to succeed academically.”
