Biometric payments
Published:  17 June, 2011

sQuid’s cashless payment solution for schools, colleges, universities and campus environments is the new convenient way to pay for catering, printing, schools trips, photocopying and online payments. sQuid payments are made through biometric identification or contactless smart cards. sQuid is flexible, affordable, and easy to use, money is held securely and parents can protect their account balance if a card is lost or stolen.

Simply register your details online, where you can also top up your account with money, check your balance and view your transactions.

sQuid is a pre-pay payments network (users can’t get in to debt) and can be set up either stand alone with terminals and readers provided, or linked to your existing till and EPOS system.

“The integration of sQuid payments with Biostore, our Identity Management Solution has created the route for a simple and effective way for children to pay for their school meals, enabling truly cashless catering” Joy Cowley of BioStore

sQuid is easy for children to use and for parents to manage, while saving school administrators time, also providing them with reports and visibility of all transactions on campus. Free school meal beneficiaries are catered for as are duty staff and visitors.

As parents can top up online, there is no need for cash on campus, which removes the need for cash handling with all of its associated costs.

Many schools and further education establishments are now introducing biometrics in cashless catering, libraries, registration and access systems. By integrating sQuid ePayments with your biometric identifier, the processes of paying and settlement are both fast and user friendly.

Biometric identifiers are an alternative to a physical device such as a smart card. These can be easily integrated in to your EPOS and enable quick and speedy transactions at the till point. A local account is held and linked to the digital biometric identifier

sQuid is an innovative ePayments service that integrates with biometric providers such as BioStore enabling cashless catering. It’s fast, user friendly and secure for everybody, ensuring fast settlement to the on campus services operator

Joy Cowley of BioStore says that, “the integration of sQuid payments with Biostore, our Identity Management Solution has created the route for a simple and effective way for children to pay for their school meals, enabling truly cashless catering”

In 2009 Banbury School began accepting sQuid ePayments to support its biometrics solution. Working closely with Cunninghams and CRB, sQuid created a solution to reduce school administration time and cash handling fees while making life easier for the Sodexo catering team.

Companies like BioStore provides the biometric readers which integrate with the Cunninghams EPOS till system. Local stored value is assured by the individual for payment at the school food facility. The local account is controlled by the sQuid online account. Parents and students can top up online and view transaction details.

The sQuid system is integrated with the catering software used within the school. Every student and staff member registers the digital reading of their finger print (no actual finger prints are stored just an alpha numeric number) and then creates an online sQuid account. Having done this they can then top up their electronic sQuid purse.

Administration fees are lowered dramatically, queuing times are reduced and cash is removed from campus. All transaction data is available to the school and settlement is automatic for the catering service operator.

When it comes to security, the storage, management and accessibility of student and staff biometric details is managed by the school. Parents and pupils benefit from sQuid's secure pay-as-you-go eMoney service.

Quick and secure transactions using biometric payments. A swipe of the finger is all it takes for students to pay for their meals. Such a simple system has its obvious benefits, such as reduced queuing, fast, secure transactions as well an end to cash counting and administrator.  Parents top up accounts online either by credit or debit card, or by bank transfer and they can also see a breakdown of purchases too.

Easy and discrete free school meal administration as these can be administered directly by the school with a set value loaded onto recipient’s account on a daily basis. Free School Meal recipients are indistinguishable at the point of purchase from their peers, ensuring no stigma is attached to them.

To get started each pupil at the school is issued with a unique sQuid Registration Number (SRN) which they then register online. sQuid provide marketing collateral to help parents and students understand the benefits of going cashless as well access to online resources such as Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's).

As well as topping up their child’s cashless catering account and viewing transactions, parents can also use the sQuid portal to make online payments to your school for trips, uniform and more. If you’re a Pebble School Fund Manager (SFM) customer you can also administer the setup and receipt of the payments directly from SFM, saving you even more time and administration.

The impact on the school extends way beyond simply making a cashless payment. It’s quick and easy for pupils to use, meal uptake is improved and pupil’s learn financial responsibility. With less cash on the school premises, staff are freed up from cash handling to perform other tasks.
