The overriding purchase criteria within educational establishments today is to ensure value for money with a product which will be fit for purpose for many years to come. Whilst government cuts are hurting at the front line, ICT equipment is a proven necessity in the learning environment – it is no luxury. Investment in equipment will therefore continue, budgets will be supplemented from non-public sources, but now more than ever, the Total Cost of Ownership will be subject to deep scrutiny.

Teaching tools which are proven to benefit the learning process such as interactive whiteboards combined with ultra-short throw projectors are now widespread throughout schools. Schools can increase the productivity of this equipment by sharing it between classrooms by using mobile trolleys. The emphasis is not to employ the very latest technological advances, but to harness the proven success of existing equipment and to maximise its productivity. The trend towards learning spaces in primary schools will mean more emphasis on smaller group learning and interaction, here touch enabled large format LCD displays complement the work group learning ethic and can be mounted on trolleys for use throughout the school.

Educational purchasers will place great importance on products which offer a reduced cost of ownership with longer lamp life, increased power efficiency and future proofed connectivity. A cheap product no longer attracts – reliability, longevity and service guarantees are attributes which make a product good value.

There is much talk of 3D teaching techniques at present and education leaders await the imminent results of on-going research to assess its value within the teaching environment. Whilst schools might not be ready to take the plunge just yet, it is advisable to future proof any current investment with 3D capable features.
