Tag 2 Twickenham 2012 Kicks Off
Published:  27 May, 2011

The RFU & YAZOO has just kicked off its national Tag 2 Twickenham competition again with a series of regional festivals taking place all around the country. The winners will go through to the finals at the birthplace of rugby, Rugby School in July.

The overall lucky winners and runners up will also get to play on the pitch at Twickenham during the England v Wales friendly match on 6th August.

“I’ve been involved with the Tag 2 Twickenham programme for over four years,” says England star Mark Cueto, “and I’m proud to be a part of what is now the biggest tag rugby scheme in England.”

The festivals are part of a YAZOO and Rugby Football Union (RFU) campaign to encourage more children to take part in the sport and stay healthy. They work with the Child Victims of Crime charity (CVOC) so that they can teach tag rugby in the nation’s primary schools.

Taking part in tag rugby makes better pupils, not just better players. If a school chooses to undertake a six-week tag rugby course or get pupils involved with a programme such as Tag 2 Twickenham, it can improve overall pupil behaviour. Tag rugby helps to teach about right and wrong and how to interact in a team using the vehicle of sport.

The RFU and YAZOO Primary School Programme is also launching a resource called Tag 4 Teachers which supports those who want to train as a tag rugby coach. If you would like any further details about how to get your primary school involved in the programme, contact Matthew Ferguson (matthewferguson@rfu.com), the RFU National Tag Rugby Development Officer.
