Top class education thanks to dynamic sector leader
Published:  18 April, 2011

Since her arrival at national qualification provider NCFE, Dee Stephenson has had a prolific impact, redeveloping qualifications that provide direct stepping stones for learners as they travel along their career paths in the Education, Business Administration and Childcare sectors.

The original 25 qualifications within NCFE’s portfolio in these sectors have been restructured into 55 qualifications which now offer learners the chance to optimise the pathways into vocational learning and employment.

Dee, Sector Leader at NCFE said: “I started working at NCFE at a time when the educational sector faced many challenges, the recession being one of them. With budgets being cut and learners facing an increasingly competitive market place we needed to re-examine our offering.

“Redeveloping the qualifications was challenging, it involved reviewing the 25 qualifications within my sectors and redesigning them to meet new regulations so we could offer learners a complete learning and progression package. We now offer full suites of qualifications that include Awards, Certificates and Diplomas.”

Along with the major task of overhauling the qualifications, Dee has been involved in developing the NCFE Mentoring Network. The introduction of the mentoring scheme played an important role in the ongoing development of NCFE, after it was recently voted by its staff as one of the very best employers in the UK and ranked 30th in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work in the Public and Charities Sectors.

Dee has a wealth of experience in mentoring which has been invaluable when helping to launch the Network. She said: “The initiative enables mentors like myself to spend two hours a month with a colleague. It is a great way to guide them with their work and aspirations and to improve wellbeing and communication in the company.

“I am delighted to work for NCFE whose main goal is to provide learners with the best educational pathways for their development and progression, as well as ensuring that their employees work in a challenging but supportive environment that boosts their morale and performance, thus aiding the productivity of the organisation.”

In these challenging times with Apprenticeships high on the Government's agenda, NCFE already has a number of qualifications and Apprenticeship frameworks available across a range of sectors including Health, Public Services and Care, Retail and Commercial Enterprise, Leisure Travel and Tourism, Business Administration and Law, Education and Training and IT.
