Paddington urges schools to take part in Bring your Bear event
Published:  08 April, 2011

Paddington Bear is encouraging primary schools across the UK to register to take part in his annual Bring your Bear event this summer to raise vital funds for his favourite children’s charity, Action Medical Research.

The Bring your Bear concept is simple and fun. Schools just choose a day from May onwards when the children bring their teddy bear, or a favourite soft toy, into class for the day. Each child brings in a pound or two with their bear to support vital research to help babies and children.

Every school that registers will receive a fantastic free fundraising kit, filled with all the resources needed to run a fun-filled Bring your Bear event, including ideas for extra activities and plenty of Paddington Bear stickers – a real favourite with the children. There are also activity sheets to download from the Bring your Bear website and use as part of a bear-related lesson plan for Key Stages One and Two.

Many schools organise a whole day of fun, such as reading Paddington stories and holding a teddy bears’ picnic where, of course, the children eat Paddington’s favourite – marmalade sandwiches!

Lizzy Chapman, ‘Bring your Bear’ event manager at Action Medical Research says: “Every child has a favourite bear and our Bring your Bear event is an exciting way for schools to make a real difference to other children. It’s very special but very easy to do and helps us fund research to reduce the suffering of babies, children and their families caused by disease and disability.”
