Total mobility in the classroom: teach from anywhere in the room
Published:  08 March, 2011

Over the past few years, money has been made available to schools specifically to buy interactive whiteboards, because technology which allows pupils and teachers to interact with digital content is seen as enhancing and having a positive impact on both teaching and learning.

However, school budgets are now being cut, and traditional interactive whiteboards are expensive and need installation, which usually adds to the cost. If you want to teach interactively, but can’t afford a fixed installation whiteboard, then the solution is to use a MOBI (mobile interactive whiteboard) instead. eInstruction (formerly Interwrite Learning) is a world leader and worldwide supplier of educational technology. The eInstruction MOBI gives you all of the functionality of a traditional interactive whiteboard, but at a fraction of the cost. It also has several important advantages over a traditional, fixed installation board (and even if you already have fixed boards, you can still benefit from using the MOBI).

Teach from anywhere in the room: with a MOBI you can teach from anywhere, you are not tied to the front of the room. You can move freely around the teaching space. The MOBI is a radio frequency device, the receiver plugs into your computer and the MOBI tablet communicates with the receiver.

Teach in any teaching space: to teach with a MOBI you need a PC/ laptop, a data projector and the MOBI. So, you can project the computer image on to any suitable surface, at any height, you can even use it in the main school hall if you want to. You don’t have to think about positioning the “whiteboard” so low that the children can reach it, the projected image can be set at any height.

No more “hands up” or “come to the front”: with the MOBI it is the MOBI itself which is the interactive surface and this can be passed from person to person. If you don’t want children to come to the front, they don’t have to. Children can work in pairs or small groups and can contribute to the digital content from their own working space. Shy children can be encouraged to contribute.

Capture multiple contributions at the same time: with the MOBI you can have up to nine MOBIs contributing at the same time. The MOBI system comes with Teacher pads and Learner pads. So, if you want to you can divide the projected working space into up to nine sections and, again, contributions can be made from the children’s own workspaces. The projected image is not obscured by groups of children standing in front of the board. Everything can be clearly seen, at all times.

Full interactive whiteboard capabilities in your hands: the MOBI comes with the Workspace™ software. If you already use an interactive whiteboard, then you will be familiar with this type of software. Workspace is the award-winning software used to create and assemble interactive lesson content, which you control with the MOBI (and you can still use all of your existing interactive content too). Workspace includes more than 4,000 teaching resources, from engaging images and animations to complete interactive lessons, organized and searchable by subject area. Workspace also houses an extensive Flash library called SIMS™ that contains interactive animations and simulations you can use as warm-up exercises, enrichment, and remediation to enhance the learning experience.

Use all of your existing content: with the MOBI you can use all of your existing content, and you can use Workspace. This powerful interactive whiteboard software gives you all of the tools that you would expect and more.

And, what’s more, you can integrate seamlessly with the CPS Student Response System, for instant feedback on student progress and performance. Teachers love the power, freedom and flexibility that the MOBI gives them.
