Work Based Learning helps improve Toshiba
Published:  08 March, 2011

Toshiba TEC has linked up with the Institute for Work Based Learning at Middlesex University to ensure that its personnel deliver even better customer satisfaction.

The institute designed a specific programme that provides customer-facing employees with the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to make effective decisions without constant referral to office-based executives.

“This programme encourages and equips staff to make their own decisions about what’s best for customers as situations arise,” comments Toshiba TEC’s marketing director Steve Hewson. “Like any large company, we have formal processes that make most things happen smoothly. But if they don’t work for whatever reason, there’s a framework that allows them to step outside the process safe in the knowledge that they will be supported by the organisation.”

Middlesex is acknowledged as the sector leader in Work Based Learning.

“Full credit to Toshiba TEC for being risk takers – they wanted to be different and help staff think in innovative ways to be more productive and our partnership supports that ambition,” says manager of business & organisational development Alex Mortimer.
