In partnership with the Children Victims of Crime charity (CVOC), an initiative to keep children safe, police officers around the country are being trained to teach basic tag rugby in primary schools. PC Bhupendra Patel recently visited a primary school in the West Midlands where he hosted a coaching session with YAZOO Tag Rugby Ambassador and CVOC patron England winger Mark Cueto.
“My association with tag rugby started in June 2002 where I was made aware that a junior school based activity was taking place at Old Salts RFC.I realised that this would be an ideal resource to allow police officers to engage with the pupils at primary schools. It’s fun and gives us the chance to breakdown barriers enabling us to make positive educational inputs.”
YAZOO, The RFU and CVOC run the national Tag 2 Twickenham festivals in which children from across the country compete for their chance to play at Twickenham. If you would like any further details about the programme, contact Matthew Ferguson (matthewferguson@rfu.com), the RFU National Tag Rugby Development Officer.
