Published:  11 February, 2011

The Education Bill was introduced into the House of Commons on Wednesday 26 January 2011. It takes forward the legislative proposals in the Schools White Paper, The Importance of Teaching and measures from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills to improve skills, including two elements of the reforms to higher education funding.

The Government has said that the bill will help teachers to:

• Offer greater accountability

• Ensure that resources are used fairly

The Parliament website hosts the Bill and the accompanying explanatory notes, which can be viewed online. It also shows the stage the Bill has reached in its passage through Parliament and provides access to Parliamentary debates via the link to Hansard.
