TEACHER SCOOPS NATIONAL AWARD
Published:  10 November, 2010

A Barking teacher has scooped a top accolade for her skills in the classroom. Ripple Primary School teacher, Rachel Dixon, has won the prestigious Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Award for ‘Teacher of the Year’

Rachel joined Ripple Primary eight years ago, and while at the school she has staged musicals, formed an award winning samba band – Escola de Samba, and helped transform exam results.

Escola de Samba played at the Primary Proms at Royal Albert Hall last year and will play there again this week.

The Pride of Britain Awards are filmed tonight and Ripple School samba drummers will be performing as Rachel goes up to receive her award.

The awards show will be screened at 8pm on ITV tonight.

Headteacher, Roger Mitchell said: “Rachel is one of the most dedicated and highly skilled teachers that I have had the privilege to work with. She is truly outstanding in the classroom and will give everything to see her pupils achieve. Rachel also makes a huge contribution to the team as we continue to move the school forward from good to outstanding. I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this award”.

Councillor Rocky Gill, Cabinet Member for Education and Children, said: “Rachel Dixon is one of Barking and Dagenham’s finest teachers and we are delighted that the children at Ripple School benefit from her expertise and commitment. We are extremely proud of her achievements and she really deserves this award. It is a tribute to her and Ripple Primary School.”
