Liverpool’s MOBO schools competition was launched on Wednesday on the city’s EDNet website and coincides with the announcement that chart-topping band JLS are the first act to be confirmed to play at this year’s awards.
Councillor Wendy Simon, Cabinet Member for Culture, said: ‘’The MOBO awards are a huge coup for Liverpool and its important we make sure as many local people get to experience the benefits of the city staging such an amazing event.
‘’I wanted our schoolchildren to be part of the MOBO’s and this ticket competition is one way of ensuring those who really want to be there have that chance. Hopefully it will be an inspiring night, and maybe for one or two a life changing one, which confirms to them that music is at the heart of what they want to achieve in life and who they want to be.’’
A total of 30 secondary schools are being asked to consider how the pupils would benefit from attending the 2010 MOBO Awards, how they are involved in music within their school or local community and how the MOBO’s could inspire them and their music.
Each school should supply in no more than 30 words why they feel the two students, who must be aged between 14-18, should represent Liverpool at the major music ceremony. This can be organised via a competition, a project or through a nomination process with forms to be returned by Monday 11th October.
The MOBO Awards has helped champion the extraordinary rise of urban music over the past two decades from niche to leading the UK charts.
This year marks the 15th anniversary of the MOBO Awards and it is gearing up to be a fantastic evening filled with an eclectic mix of UK and international MOBO stars; with nominees including Tinie Tempah, N-Dubz, Professor Green, Plan B and Dizzee Rascal.
