Now crisps, chocolate and fizzy drinks cannot be sold on the premises, schools are looking for tempting, healthier alternatives to keep students satisfied between meals. Lucky schools in the West Midlands can thank HEART of ENGLAND fine foods (HEFF) for developing the ‘S Bar’ smoothie bar and the healthier vending ‘V Machine’ initiatives to help students adopt healthier eating habits.
Both schemes are heavily subsidised by the West Midlands Food Partnership via Advantage West Midlands, making them extremely attractive packages.
The equipment kits satisfy Government guidelines and are supplied with fresh, high quality regional products with a genuine local provenance. The smoothie bar comes with juicing and blending equipment, exciting recipes, point of sale material and a pre-qualified local fruit and vegetable supplier. The mobile unit can be moved indoors or outdoors to produce pure fruit drinks on demand and in minutes.
The eye-catching V machines are stocked with nutritious, local products such as bottled mineral water, organic milkshakes, dried fruit and nuts, low fat yoghurts and pure fruit juices and are available through nominated delivery systems.
Former dinner lady and school food campaigner Jeanette Orrey sampled a fresh smoothie at FIND, HEFF’s annual conference. She said, “I think the smoothie and vending projects are great ideas. This is our one chance to get school food right and future generations will thank us for it.”
