The Entrepreneurs of the future
BELP pioneers the first Young Leaders’ Council in the UK
Published:  23 July, 2010

The Bucks Economic & Learning Partnership (BELP) is pioneering the UK’s first Young Leaders’ Council; a scheme which helps to support and nurture the brightest young business minds in Buckinghamshire.

The Young Leaders’ Council, which was launched on Wednesday 16th June, saw students from Years 12 and 13 attend a special event and begin their journeys towards becoming the business entrepreneurs of the future.  The Young Leaders’ Council aims to encourage the group of students, by working with established Buckinghamshire business professionals and entrepreneurs, giving them the skills they will need to become future leaders in whatever industry they choose in the future.

The first session of the Young Leaders’ Council began with a ‘Master class on Leadership’ from Buckinghamshire-based Cirkle PR.  Later the Holst Group, took the group through a review of the students’ career ‘personal profiles,’ which will help to identify the industry sector each student would like to explore as a career option for the future.  The day was rounded off with ‘12 steps to success’ mentoring scheme with the up-and-coming Buckinghamshire entrepreneur, Carly Ward.

Speaking after the inaugural event, Graham Grover, the Chief Executive of BELP, said: “I have been very impressed by the flair, talent and drive of the students who took part in the UK’s first Young Leaders’ Council today.

“Business conditions across the UK are tougher than ever and it’s important that BELP can help nurture young business minds at this stage in their lives, to help them become the future leaders of industry.”

The purpose of BELP’s Young Leaders’ Council is to provide a framework for students and work with established Buckinghamshire business leaders. Through this scheme, Buckinghamshire entrepreneurs give up their time for free to provide valuable insights into the various aspects of business including: team work, leadership, lateral thinking, creativity, communication skills and problem solving.

The Members of the Young Leaders’ Council come from a range of schools across Buckinghamshire. The students were either nominated by their teachers or self-nominated with recommendation. Just one pupil per school has the chance to become a council member.
