Balancing the benefits of technology against the costs
Published:  05 May, 2010

Harnessing the benefits of technology delivers a significant competitive advantage not only to your students but also to the educational establishment as a whole. Balancing the benefits of technology against costs both to your budget and the environment is not always an easy task. Consideration of the Total Cost of Ownership is high on the agenda in the education sector. Comparing only the product cost is now less important than consideration of the overall cost taking into account lamp life and lamp costs, for example. Operating costs – defined in terms of power consumption – also play an important role. This development is being reinforced by tougher legislation, such as the new EuP directive, which imposes limits on standby power consumption.

NEC Display Solutions has long been recognised as an innovation leader, whereby all it’s new Display Solutions fall well within these Eco regulations. For example, NEC projectors offer a long lamp life of up to 5,000 hours, minimum normal and standby power consumption of just 0.7 W, low lamp costs, and long maintenance intervals of up to 5,000 hours. NEC’s product innovation is well placed to meet the requirements of education users by offering easy to adopt eco products, solutions and tools to extend product lifecycles, minimise power consumption and provide the means to quantify cost savings. Setting the highest ecodesign standards in projection technology, NEC is the first manufacturer in the World to have it’s equipment tested by the Swedish organisation TCO Development to verify its ergonomic and ecological characteristics. This enabled NEC Display Solutions to market the World’s first TCO-certified projectors.
