Since it launched the initiative has supported the DCSF in promoting the study of foreign languages, and with well over *1000 foreign films on offer in 21 different languages, provides a genuine window on the world. 88% of teachers involved in the scheme say that it broadens children’s cultural understanding and 81% say it improves their receptivity to learning. In addition teachers report improvements in literacy, communication skills and confidence as a result of attendance at FILMCLUB.
“FILMCLUB can be used to broaden the type of films that the children watch by introducing them to foreign language and classic films; to encourage discussion and appreciation of film; and to improve literacy skills.”
Rachel Caddick, Teacher
“What we do through FILMCLUB is discuss the films and their (the childrens’) imagination is fired. They are getting experiences outside of their everyday life and it is wonderful to see their faces.”
Janice Middleton, Head Teacher
