Pupils had the rare opportunity to touch and hold some of the amazing creatures that Tropical Inc brought with them to help pupils understand the different ways in which animals are adapted to different environments - baby meerkats put in a guest appearance!
To support the pupils’ learning during their visit, they also spent time observing and learning about the diverse plant collection to be found at the Botanical Gardens. Pupils studied the vibrant range of tropical rainforest plants such as cocoa, sugar cane and coffee, and were able to make comparisons to plants from other world habitats.
Education Officer, Deborah Knott, said: "Our special rainforest week for schools has once again proved to be a popular and enjoyable experience that brings the world of rainforests alive to our younger visitors. Teachers tell us that they and their pupils really enjoy the interactive sessions that are totally unforgettable!"
More special rainforest weeks will be available to pre-booked schools in 2010 and dates will be advertised on the Gardens’ website over the next few weeks.
