Cambridgeshire Schools Rise To ‘The Lunchbox Challenge'
Published:  09 November, 2009

A new initiative to help teach children about the importance of healthy eating has just been launched in Cambridgeshire.

‘The Lunchbox Challenge' has been created by Cambridgeshire County Council's Personal, Social & Health Education (PSHE) Service with the support of Cambridgeshire Dietetic Business Unit. A key component of the resource is the Top Grub card game developed by Health Enterprise East, the region's NHS Innovation Hub based at Papworth Hospital.

Participating Cambridgeshire primary and special schools are being given a ‘lunchbox' containing a range of teaching resources and materials to support the children in delivering the ‘Lunchbox Challenge', including the Top Grub card game, which is based on the popular children's game Top Trumps. This comprises 33 full-colour cards, contained in a box and each featuring a different food with nutritional values given in terms of fat, sugar, salt, fibre and calories.

Schools are also able to buy additional packs of Top Grub at £5.99 per pack and discounts for bulk purchases are available. Visit  www.ideasforhealth.org.uk
