Manufacturers of specialist stationery equipment for the education sector, STAEDTLER offers a comprehensive range of writing, drawing and Art & Craft materials for schools, developed in close association with the teaching profession.
Established in 1966, the UK company employs around 150 people and is one of the most successful subsidiaries in the international J.S. STAEDTLER Group.
Based in Wales, STAEDTLER manufactures more than 160 million writing instruments annually. Many of these are world famous, such as the instantly recognisable Noris yellow and black striped pencil and that office classic, the STAEDTLER stick pen.
In addition to being by far the largest supplier of pencils to the nation’s schoolchildren, STAEDTLER also produces other key education products, such as the 309 handwriting pen, designed to encourage better handwriting skills, and the classic 120 Noris HB pencil, the most widely used in Europe – ideal for keeping pencils or crayons in, it’s also neat and convenient to store.
Classpack Challenge
To strengthen links with schools, STAEDTLER runs a popular national design competition, The Classpack Challenge, which attracts thousands of entries. This exciting competition invites children to design the cover for a STAEDTLER classpack. The winning entry for this year, judged at the recent Education Show, was from Monkseaton Community High School. Their artwork will now adorn selected classpacks for twelve months or more until a new design is chosen.
In addition to having their work on daily display in schools throughout the UK, the budding artists have also won £1,000 worth of computer equipment for their classroom.
Handwriting competition
STAEDTLER (UK) Ltd was also delighted to support a recent handwriting competition for primary schoolchildren in Altrincham.
The competition, which was judged on the basis of five weeks’ work, was organised by the Rotary Club of Altrincham and involved Key Stage 2 pupils from Broomwood, Cloverlea and Navigation primary schools. The schools chose a winner from each of the four year groups and these were then ranked in first, second and third place for each year group by a team of Rotary judges.
STAEDTLER donated 500 of its popular handwriting pens for the children to use in their efforts and then provided individual sets of writing materials for the 12 winning children. Graham Harrison, Business Education Manager at STAEDTLER, comments, “Clear, legible handwriting is vitally important even in an age dominated by computers and so we were very pleased to support this extremely worthwhile initiative aimed at encouraging children to acquire good handwriting skills.”
