UK students compete to become IT World Champions
Published:  10 November, 2008

Two British students have competed against pupils from more than 45 countries at Certiport's PATHWAYS international conference, as Certiport UK announces the launch of the 2009 Worldwide Competition on Microsoft Office.

Phillipa Dunlop, 15, from Chislehurst & Sidcup Grammar School in Kent, and Martha Cattell, 15, from Sawtry Community College in Cambridgeshire, are the 2008 United Kingdom Champions for Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word respectively.  Both were awarded an all-expense-paid trip to the Hawaii conference to compete for the title "World Champion" of Microsoft Word and Excel.

This year's competition runs between October 2008 and May 2009. In order to enter, students need to find a testing centre for Microsoft Certified Application Specialist (2007 Office version) in Word or Microsoft Certified Application Specialist (2007 Office version) in Excel and register to take part.

One easy way is for schools or colleges to become testing centres themselves, helping the school or college stand out from others in their area.

Completing its sixth year, the Worldwide Competition on Microsoft Office boasts more than 171,000 students who have competed for the title of World Champion.
