Try Learning initiative
Published:  19 June, 2008

The UK's leading online education recruitment service eteach.com has thrown its support behind Try Learning @ The Twickenham Stoop. The new venture provides study centres for Year 5 to 8 students (ages 10-14) to learn after school.

Launched as part of the Government Playing for Success initiative, Try Learning is a partnership between the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), Richmond Council and Harlequins Rugby Club.

The aim is to provide a cost-effective, accessible means of raising standards in literacy, numeracy and ICT, and improving student motivation and attitudes towards learning.

The curriculum involves themed activities connected to rugby but underpinned by numeracy and literacy objectives. However, other curriculum areas can be integrated too, such as PHSE, and active and healthy lifestyles.

David McGahey, MD of eteach.com said: "Having worked in the education sector for over 25 years, I fully appreciate how important these types of projects are and the difference they make to the development of young people. Try Learning is a fantastic initiative and eteach.com is delighted to be supporting it."
