Offsetting carbon footprint
Published:  15 May, 2008

Warewashing specialist Meiko UK, has taken the first step in implementing a carbon offset programme for every road, air and freight mile undertaken on behalf of the company.  With effect from the

2 January this year, a number of the company's energy, chemical and sustainable kitchen food waste products automatically qualify for ‘footprint points' that convert into £s for the Meiko UK Carbon Offset Fund.

At the year end, the proceeds from the Fund will be distributed to a number of organisations who actively contribute to reducing CO2.

Whilst Meiko, as a manufacturing group, is continuously researching and developing methods of reducing energy, detergent and water consumption in its warewashing product range, a further commitment in offsetting CO2 emissions seemed the responsible next step.

A whole range of equipment will qualify for this Carbon Offset initiative, such as: the proven CSS-Top an 80% detergent saving system, available on both rack transport and flight machines (250 points); heat pumps delivering between 7kw - 42kw energy saving (up to 500 points); the Airbox "Plus" cooled air distribution module (150 points) and the kitchen food waste dewatering and vacuum waste removal appliances (up to 250 points).

For further information and full details of which machines or accessories qualify for this Carbon Offset initiative please contact Meiko direct on:
