Credit crunch tightening the IT budget?
See it as an opportunity
Published:  15 May, 2008

With all the doom and gloom regarding the global ‘credit crunch', large organisations should think of the strategic cost savings that can be made in this economic environment.

As firms look to extract maximum value from their IT infrastructure, one easy saving that can be made is by investing in disk imaging solutions to manage the deployment of updates, disaster recovery, system builds and OS rollouts. As IT budgets look to be slashed, this is just one quick and easy solution that can enable CIOs to make considerable time and cost savings.

Instead of having IT staff spend their precious time on vital but low level and routine tasks, the use of efficient disk imaging to manage an organisation-wide network administration or to restore disparate hardware platforms to a standardised or ‘universal' image, can now be managed quickly, remotely and painlessly.

Using a product called UIU (the Universal Imaging Utility), IT personnel can create a hardware independent master Image in just ten minutes, which they are able to deploy across a network, irrespective of the configuration, make or model of the [Windows] desktops or laptops in use. This can free IT employees to perform more urgent duties and concentrate on larger scale projects, adding more value.

Geoff McIntosh, MD at Binary Resource, said: "Rolling-out software updates and setting up new desktops and laptops can be managed within a matter of minutes and a previously complex and time-consuming operation can be transformed into a simple, straightforward, fully-automated task."

He continued: "This enables IT departments to drastically reduce the time and money spent on Image creation, maintenance and deployment by streamlining the cloning process. UIU works with virtually all brands and models of Windows-based laptops and desktops. This ensures that IT resources may be focused on more business-critical tasks."
