The Gecko stair climber provides disability access for all
Published:  15 May, 2008

Public and private buildings can provide disability access in compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) with the Platform Lift Company's new product, the Gecko stair climber.  Wheelchairs are fixed onto the portable stair climber to enable the disability impaired to move up and down steps easily.

The Gecko stair climber, designed by the Platform Lift Company's Italian partners Vimec, operates on gradients up to 35º with a minimum staircase width of 820mm. Powered by its in built electronic battery charger, The Gecko has an operating range of approximately 23 floors. A LED green light alerts a battery recharge.

The high friction factor rubber which grips the steps has been specially designed not to leave any marks on carpet, wood or any other floor covering. The Gecko travels smoothly up and down steps and is operated by a button.

Adjustable fastenings fix different types of wheelchairs, including both folding and rigid back seat models, to the Gecko without the need for any wrenches.  Several options are available to modify the Gecko to accommodate special wheelchairs and baby carriages.
