Education Show special: Pilot invites schools to be green
Published:  01 February, 2007

2007 promises to be a busy year for The Pilot Pen Company as it has just appointed a new manager to head up its Education Division and launched a groundbreaking range of new products, named BegreeN.

New appointment

John Cotterell has now taken up the position of National Account Manager (Education) and is a well known figure in the industry. With over 20 years experience, John understands the needs of the Education channel and is currently working on building Pilot’s existing range of dedicated writing, drawing and Art & Craft products aimed at the teaching profession.

BegreeN

New to the Education sector is Pilot’s BegreeN range, a revolutionary concept as it’s the world’s first complete range of writing instruments made from recycled materials. Pilot believes it’s one of the most important products launches for 2007 as there is growing demand for products from sustainable sources.

Exclusive recycled Gratnell’s trays

To complement its BegreeN range, Pilot is the first company to introduce a range of Gratnell’s trays made from 100% recycled plastic, which can hold any combination of products from the BegreeN range. Pictured here is the actual tray and as with Pilot’s BegreeN range they look, perform and feel just the same as their non-recycled counterpart and there’s no increase in price.

According to John Cotterell: “We believe that our BegreeN range combined with our recycled Gratnell’s trays is an unbeatable combination especially as many schools and colleges are looking into how they can become greener by using environmentally friendly practices, materials and products.

“What we are doing is a step in the right direction and allows schools and colleges to make a further contribution to being environmentally friendly.”

FriXion

Another new innovation is the Pilot FriXion, an exciting new rollerball pen and a new concept in writing.

Frixion writes in the normal way but the ink can simply and quickly be erased by friction-generated heat. The concept is a simple one but the pen’s ink technology is complex and clever as it uses Metamocolor“ ink technology, which has taken years to perfect.

The ink is not actually erased but becomes translucent at a temperature of 65°C and has a recovering temperature of minus 20∞C – around the temperature of your average freezer.

FriXion’s special ink allows you to write and over-write with the same pen and is clean to erase as there’s no eraser debris.”

Pluminix Pixie

New to Pilot’s growing Pixie range of products is the Pluminix Pixie fountain pen, a product designed especially for smaller hands, with its mini barrel and an ergonomically shaped finger grip.

Launched in this special 30 piece Schools’ pack, Pluminix comes in 10 different neon barrel colours, all with blue ink and can be refilled with an international sized cartridge.

Also new is Pilot’s H185 Super Grip Pixie mini mechanical pencil, which comes in a 50 piece pack and is available in 5 different neon barrel colours.
