New government initiatives
Published:  10 April, 2008

According to government press releases, in the past ten years over £2 billion has been spent on school sports, and a further £30 million expenditure was announced this January. Over 80% of children do over 2 hours of sport a week, and the aim is to take the weekly hours up above that level.

One month later the government has announced that all children in schools in England should get five hours cultural experience a week with more money being made available to schools taking part in this initiative.

The new initiatives mean that a greater emphasis is being placed on inter-departmental co-operation with new equipment being purchased in the knowledge that it is going to be shared between departments that normally don't have too much to do with each other.

High on the list of requirements for schools involved in expanding the teaching of culture and sports has been an upgraded PA system - while most schools have some sort of PA facility, they don't necessarily have equipment suitable for this sudden expansion of the school's work.

Bretford has produced a wide range of portable PA equipment to meet all school needs. The aim is to help schools get maximum use from the equipment, rather than having it restricted to one department or one or two occasions per year.
