Library security
Published:  12 March, 2008

The security gates in the Learning Resource Centre at the new build Weston Favell School, remind students to check books in and out.  "The gates are just a gentle reminder that the books in the library are of value to the school and  students.  Our students are very responsible and really appreciate their smart new Learning Resource Centre so we have very low book loss."

The library is so popular that a school inspector commented on the queue outside the door!

D-Tech installed the single aisle,  Plexi Maxi electromagnetic security gates, set  at 1200mm, and also a spinal deactivate and reactivate unit. This means the library benefits from two acrylic security gates at the entrance/exit, with electronic technology that activates and deactivates books as they are taken in and out.  Self adhesive EM tags are placed in the gutters or spines of the books.

EM (electromangentic technology) is the most popular security system for school libraries because it is efficient (tried and tested technology); cost effective (installation and consumables) and it easily integrates into existing LMS system

The new school is nearing the end of the development and students are now enjoying the facilities in this 21st Century School.
