These days that approach is not enough for inspectors, as many now require the managers to show them how each policy is being implemented and which documentation is available to support each policy. It has been made very clear that the answer, "I ask my staff," just isn't acceptable. One school that has now solved this problem is Reigate School, Surrey. John Cain, the Headteacher explains, "One of the biggest problems we faced - and I suspect every school faces - is the fact that when a policy is changed or a new policy is introduced we have a meeting, and then circulate the minutes. But we never know who has read the minutes, who would like to comment immediately and who would like to ensure a certain point is covered more in depth in order to fit in with a document they are working on."
In order to save time and create a more efficient school John Cain went looking for a new approach. His solution was to put all policies, procedures, exam grades, marking, time tables and lesson planning on one piece of software which would ensure that all staff are working from the same document. Further by monitoring the downloading of each document, he and his senior colleagues could see at a glance which staff have or have not accessed a policy.
The software pioneered at Reigate School, known as Ariadne, has now been developed by Softorque. For a demonstration of this software please call:
