The lessons cover topical subjects such as whaling, genetic engineering and animals used in research. And five lessons about farm animals contain information about chickens, a particularly topical issue following Jamie Oliver's latest programme, Jamie's Fowl Dinners.
Previously, online lessons for pupils from Key Stage 1 to 3 have been available on the RSPCA's education website. Now, for the first time, lessons are available for use at Key Stage 4 as well.
In addition to this, new lessons about farm animals for primary school teachers have also been added to the wealth of other material available for this age-group on the website.
The educational resources - including lesson plans, teachers' notes, photocopiable materials, pictures and other teaching resources - are available online at www.rspca.org.uk/education. A selection will also be on display at stand PZ-D38 in Hall 12 at the Education Show 2008.
The primary farm animal resources use fun activities to help five to 11-year-old pupils understand where their food comes from, the use of labelling and how young people, as consumers, can make a difference to farm animal welfare. The resources can be used as part of lessons about Science and Citizenship and coincide with the Government-endorsed Year of Food and Farming.
