Altro gets top marks at Wakefield School
Published:  06 December, 2007

With a reputation for first class education, the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, needed something special when it came to flooring for its new design and technology room.

Combining the aesthetics of natural wood with the reassurance of slip resistance, Altro’s innovative Timbersafe safety flooring range provided the ideal solution for the school, offering staff and students a mix of style and safety.

Timbersafe is the first true wood-look safety flooring in the industry (i.e. with assurance of slip resistance throughout its warranty period) from Altro, the inventors of safety flooring. In addition to Timbersafe’s anti-slip technology, its resilience and easy to clean surface makes it perfect for high traffic areas, such as classrooms and corridors.

David Butterfield, Estates & Contracts Manager at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, said: “We wanted something that looked tasteful but also met all the requirements that a busy school like ours has and we haven’t been disappointed. The flooring looks great and we’re sure that we’ve chosen the best to keep our staff and students as safe as possible.”

Andrew Oates, Director of Oates Interiors, who installed the Altro flooring said: “After hearing what the school wanted, we recommended Altro’s Timbersafe range straight away. It shows just how far safety flooring has come and offers a really stylish product. As with all Altro’s products, it’s really easy to work with and its durability means the design and technology room will look smart for years.”

Altro has developed the Timbersafe range after extensive research with designers and key professionals from a variety of market sectors, including education. Combining an attractive wood design with proven slip resistance, Timbersafe is ideal for use in schools, colleges and other areas where a safe walking surface with a warm, non-institutional look is required.

The new collection is available in six attractive finishes – beech, chestnut, oak, pine, cherry and walnut. All combine detailed wood graining and the authentic effect of jointed wooden floor boards to give a realistic appearance, with none of the maintenance and performance issues of real wood.

In addition to its attractive design, Timbersafe offers all of the high performance associated with Altro floorings. The range offers excellent slip resistance, underlining the company’s commitment to supporting the HSE’s legislation on slips and trips. Hardwearing and resistant to scuffs and impact, it also incorporates Altro Maxis technology and AltroSan for ease of cleaning and hygienic performance.
