The McCain Alternatives range was created to provide school caterers with a range of healthier versions of children’s favourite foods. They are easy to prepare and support school caterers in creating an attractive, varied and balanced menu. McCain Alternatives are lower in salt and prepared in sunflower oil which reduces saturated fat by 75% and eliminates hydrogenated fats.
The innovation team at McCain was recently rewarded when the Cheese and Tomato Multiserve pizza with added wheatgerm and fibre won the Children’s Catergory in this year’s Excellence in Food & Drink Awards.
The Cheese and Tomato Multiserve pizza has all the flavour and texture of regular pizza, with added goodness naturally present in wheat germ, containing Omega 6, Vitamins A, E, B6 and folic acid. It provides a healthier option, that meets FSA guidelines and enables this traditional children’s favourite to feature on a nutritionally balanced menu.
The universally popular Cheese and Tomato topping adds flexibility as it is suitable for vegetarians and can also be added to by the caterer for a bespoke offering to suit individual school preferences.
Customers must be at the heart of a business, which is why McCain works hard to understand and support changing needs. For schools, part of McCain’s role is to ensure balanced and innovative choices are available, now and in the future and Pizza Grande with added wheatgerm and fibre is a great example of this.
