The Electrone SpillSafe100 enables schoolchildren to order pre-paid meals by identifying themselves with a pin number. This fast automated process cuts out the need for dinner money, removes the stigma for children on free meals and enables each individual pupil’s diet to be monitored.
Electrone, already the number one supplier of data entry devices to US high schools, is expanding across Europe and is now looking to expand its network of resellers for this range of new products. The keypad can also include a biometric scanner, contactless payment options, or a barcode reader for two-factor authentication.
The keypad is robustly designed with a rubber cover to absorb impacts and protect against liquid spills. Canteens pose a particularly sticky set of problems with their high throughput of fingers encrusted with baked beans and treacle sponge. But to prove the resilience of the new keypad, Electrone Europe engineers developed an unusual test to ensure it was canteen-proof. Following a drenching by a litre of coke and a litre of water, the Electrone SpillSafe100 must be able to restart without the use of any tools, not even a screwdriver.
