The Phoenix School caters for pupils with emotional, social and behavioural difficulties and uses Sky Sports Living for Sport projects, delivered in partnership with the Youth Sport Trust, to boost pupils' self-confidence and self-esteem and as well as improving their health and wellbeing.
Darren, who called receiving the award “a great honour” , learnt archery in his spare time to teach his students the sport for their Sky Sports Living for Sport project, as he believed they would not only enjoy it, but it would also help them focus and increase their self-discipline. His efforts have enabled his students to grow in confidence, focus and in their commitment to sport.
After visiting Darren and his pupils at the school, Kirsty commented on the difference that a fantastic teacher can make to students and said of Darren: “He is clearly an inspiration to them.”
