Students create elaborate mosaic for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee
Published:  06 June, 2012

The Jubilee celebrations may now be drawing to a close, but the commemorative mosaic created by the students from Abingdon Prep Boys School will endure for years to come.

250 pairs of hands, about 300 hours work and thousands of pieces of ceramic, gold leaf and glass tiles came together to create a mosaic masterpiece to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee.

All 250 boys from the school were involved from start to finish.  The Head of Art, Michelle Kitto, used the boy’s ideas to create the design for the mosaic and then everyone helped to cut and stick the tiles.  Michelle said of the project: “The boys are really proud of what they have created; it has been a lot of hard work but is truly memorable.”

The mosaic will take pride of place at the entrance to the School.
