Schools can help to fill skills gap in job market
Published:  22 May, 2012

Active informatics have warned that higher and further education organisations in the UK are creating a skills gap by failing to effectively use labour market intelligence to ensure their local areas are adequately filled with the right talent pools.

The information and mapping solutions provider, who has recently launched Active Profiler, a suite of web based applications to enable organisations to improve their approach to employer engagement, is concerned that despite UK employment standing at over 2.5 million, many businesses with job vacancies are struggling to recruit due to the number of unsuitable candidates.

Steve Ainsworth, CEO, said: “Many colleges and higher education organisations are running courses which do not truly reflect the needs and demands of their local economy. Key to alleviating this is evidence based decision making.”

He added: “By taking a top down approach to skills training, further education organisations can truly understand the profile of employers and local labour demand, and ensure they are training post 16 students with the necessary skills to find employment.”
