Call for teachers to be at centre of education reform
Published:  11 May, 2012

The Education Foundation has asked for teachers to place themselves at the heart of education reform.

At the launch of the Learning Lab this week, the organisation introduced a centre for teachers to pioneer and test new classroom methods, assistive technologies and professional development techniques. The launch followed the report into Great Teaching, by the Education Select Committee, which highlighted the need for better continued professional development in the sector, to attract and retain the best talent.

Speaking at the launch – which gave teachers the opportunity to test new technologies amongst groups of children- the co-founder of the foundation, Ty Goddard said: “Innovation cannot be imposed upon schools, but must be nurtured through strong leadership and staff involvement.  Our lab approach represents a genuine leap forward in the developing of new teaching techniques, providing a practical environment where the potential benefits of new technologies and methods can be clearly assessed.”
