ZyXEL adds wireless access and unified threat management
Published:  01 September, 2007

It Joseph’s Primary School is located in Bracknell, Berkshire. The school wanted to improve its current IT equipment and embed ICT throughout the school’s curriculum in order to make its students’ studies a success. The school was also keen to allow pupils and teachers the ability to access the Internet anywhere within the grounds, in order to promote a superior and more flexible teaching and learning approach.

St Joseph’s worked with ZyXEL to put in place a variety of wireless equipment which would free students and staff from being tied to one ICT room. ZyXEL also put in place a Unified Threat Management device (UTM), so that the school would always be safe from viruses and hacking attacks. The UTM also acts as a content filter to restrict pupils from accessing inappropriate content and applications.

“Prior to the solution, we found that the teachers weren’t using the Internet as often as they would have liked to, but now they find that the extensive variety of resources available on the Internet supports pupils’ learning and helps them to plan effective, relevant lessons.” said Juanita Dunlop, Head Teacher at St Joseph’s

Staff have found that the new ICT environment has not only helped to ensure the pace of their lessons is easily maintained, but that it has also played a significant role in the improved motivation and behaviour of the children.
