Software support for schools
Published:  07 July, 2011

A software solution has been developed by catering software specialist Fretwell-Downing Hospitality (FDH) to support schools that are managing, or preparing to manage, their own catering. Saffron Cuisine has been tailored specifically to help schools manage the two biggest influencers on this aspect of the business – cost control particularly in the wake of rising food inflation, and ensuring menus meet the nutrient standards.

The new web-based software, which is available as Software As A Service (SaaS) for a monthly subscription of £60, has been adapted from the more comprehensive Saffron management information system which is already used by local authorities and education contract caterers.

Saffron Cuisine will automatically keep tabs on the cost of menus and will allow business managers and bursars to model and manage the gross profit of individual dishes and offers. The software also provides a head start on meeting the nutrient standards by including a fully compliant menu cycle that schools can follow at first  before gradually adding and analysing their own recipes and menus.
