Talented woodworkers sought
Published:  01 June, 2007

A nationwide project to seek out the most talented woodworkers in secondary schools and sixth form colleges has been launched. Design and technology departments are being invited to submit examples of their pupils’ handicraft in a bid to win valuable specialist woodworking equipment and materials for their workshop.

There are three age groups covering 13-14 year olds (years 8- 9), GCSE (years10-11) and "A" Level (years 12-13) & Post 16 – and in each category the winning student will receive a Playstation 3 with runners-up receiving an i-Pod or an MP3 player.

Students may enter any item fashioned from hard or soft wood – perhaps an ornament or model, a household item, furniture or a toy. Once the submission is completed all the teacher has to do is submit photographs for judging to the sponsor’s website.

Winning students and schools will be invited to the Design and Technology in Education Exhibition at the NEC in November to receive their prizes.

Behind the project is Fitchett and Woollacott, a supplier of sustainably-sourced timber to D & T Departments.

The project runs until October and full details can be found at www.fitchetts.co.uk
