The website will feature blogs on literacy issues from experts including the Director of the National Literacy Trust. A competition to launch the new website which asked for suggestions for the Director’s first blog, revealed that the current top literacy issues are the impact of new technologies, such as Facebook and e-books, and the importance of family literacy. The winning entry suggested that the first blog should look at how we can make literacy fun and exciting in an age of assessment and accountability.
The new brand celebrates the National Literacy Trust’s holistic approach to supporting literacy and the partnerships and networks that make the charity’s work possible. The new logo is constructed of four translucent panels which express the potent combination of reading, writing, speaking and listening skills; crucial for combating inequality and supporting social mobility.
The website will also feature a new campaigning section, which will provide an opportunity to take action for literacy and reading. The National Literacy Trust Twitter feed and Facebook page provide extended ways to keep up to date with literacy news and to get involved with literacy projects and campaigns.
National Literacy Trust Director Jonathan Douglas says:
“The new website is a fantastic resource for teachers, librarians and anyone else with a passion for literacy and the benefits it brings. The new site makes it simple to search online for literacy news and resources and to get involved with literacy projects and campaigns.
“The Trust’s energy and focus will also be reflected in the way that we look. The website will feature our new logo and visual identity which reflects our passion for working in partnership, sharing our knowledge and adopting creativity approaches to literacy.”
