SELECTAGLAZE – Providing a Master Class in Secondary Glazing Systems
Published:  09 February, 2010

Schools need to provide a good learning environment so unwanted noise or chilly classrooms must be avoided. Secondary glazing can offer a simple and effective solution which is particularly appropriate for traditional or listed buildings with preserved facades.

Secondary glazing provides an additional purpose designed window on the room side of the existing window. The frames incorporate high performance seals to limit the discomfort of draughts and the extra pane of glass traps an insulating layer to hold in the warmth and reduce fuel costs. Use of modern thermally efficient glass in secondary glazing can match the performance of new windows and so help the building meet much more demanding energy performance standards.

Unwanted noise from outside can be very distracting, particularly in exam rooms, music rooms and libraries. Secondary glazing will significantly reduce the problem – typically by 42-45dB - with performance improving as the gap between the windows increases.

Selectaglaze also offers systems with Secured by Design accreditation, which is particularly relevant for use in such areas as computer rooms, music rooms and receptions.

Selectaglaze has a very wide range of designs to suit almost any window style. These arrive fully assembled to allow rapid installation with minimal disruption. Work is generally programmed for holiday periods and can be staged to suit maintenance budgets.

Established in 1966 and a Royal Warrant holder since 2004, Selectaglaze Ltd has vast experience in working with all types of buildings throughout the UK.

The company’s stand at BSEC 2010 will provide an opportunity to ‘hear the difference’ via a special sound booth and staff will be on hand to offer technical advice and help. A range of literature including data sheets covering Noise Insulation, Energy Performance and Window Protection will also be available. Selectaglaze’s literature is free and, for those unable to visit the Show, copies can be obtained from the Marketing Department.
