Goat hair carpet receives sustainable award
Published: 29 January, 2010
The highest BREEAM rating for carpets has recently been awarded to international Irish manufacturer Tretford. Their unique cord carpet has been awarded an A+ rating, for retail and leisure environments and an A rating which covers the average service life of 10 years in heavy duty environments, such as schools.
The carpet’s innovative construction, comprising up to 80% goat hair with 100% jute backing, has the lowest environmental impact and makes a maximum contribution to overall performance of a school’s green standard. It also has positive influence on the design and management, helping to reduce running costs while improving leaning and pupil well-being.
This confirms the reason why Tretford carpet is so popular and cost effective in the education sector. For example, over 3000sqm of carpet tiles have recently been installed at Newcastle’s Northumbria University (image). The carpet is available in 48 colours in roll and 35 colours in tile.
