Qualifactions for Schools from BCS
Published:  29 January, 2010

BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, has developed a range of practical qualifications and resources designed to get everyone using IT to their advantage.  Our qualifications offer ‘Solutions for Schools’ with a fantastic range of qualifications ideal for the school environment.

Digital Creator is an enjoyable way of achieving a GCSE equivalent qualification while expressing creativity through digital media. There are eight engaging units which include digital audio, still images, video, storytelling with animation, optical media and much more. The course involves five creative aspects of digital media, and three which share work via optical media, presentations and the internet.  This qualification engages with students and allows them to express their creativity right across the curriculum.

BCS is offering a unique opportunity for 1,000 teachers to receive free digital media skills courseware at the 2010 BETT Show.

We are pleased to announce a major opportunity for teachers and trainers to get started with digital media skills.  At the BETT Show 2010, taking place at London Olympia, 13th – 16th January, (www.bettshow.com) BCS (stand no. J9) will be offering a unique opportunity for 1,000 teachers to get free access to our new Digital Creator Level 1 materials.

Hosted online, these materials provide all of the resources needed to teach some key digital media skills such as, creating, editing and sharing podcasts, digital video, animations and digital photographs.

They are perfect as an introduction for teachers and trainers who have never used digital media before and want to gain the skills themselves before teaching them to students.

The materials include comic-book style workbooks, video tutorials and sample files; everything that is needed to deliver engaging and easy to understand lessons.  It demonstrates how to create exciting digital projects and comes complete with a full e-portfolio system.

We will be offering teachers the chance to register for a free term long registration to the site on stand J9. This will be offered on a strictly first-come, first-served basis.  Terms and Conditions will apply, with more information available on the stand or through our BCS Limelight newsletter (to register to this newsletter please email: limelight@hq.bcs.org.uk).

equalskills is the perfect introduction for people who’ve never used a computer, helping learners understand the basic skills needed to operate a computer. Learners progress on to an introduction to the internet at a steady, easy pace.  The qualification covers: Computer Basics, Introduction to the Desktop, The World Wide Web and Email.

e-type is the UK’s leading touch-typing qualification, which improves learners efficiency by increasing their typing speed and improving their accuracy. It is flexible and fun with no pressure for learners to keep up with others. Forget two finger typing forever!

ECDL improves a candidate’s understanding of computers and helps them learn to use computers efficiently, opening up opportunities by providing a broad range of IT skills.

Personal Finance provides learners with a financial understanding, to help them manage money now and plan for their future.

To offer our qualifications, schools can establish their own centres, or can work with existing approved centres to deliver our qualifications to students and staff.
