‘Genius’ financial solution addresses HE funding delays
Published:  10 December, 2009

Higher Education and university students can now benefit from a new and unique internet based financial funding application form which is not only revolutionizing access to Government student hardship funding, but is helping overcome delays with student loans.  fafgenius offers considerable benefits to both students and HE institutions with its tailored, intelligent and bespoke funding solution.fafgenius, which has been developed by the Student Support department at Aston University, in the heart of Birmingham and Modus Creative, a marketing company based in Worcester, securely calculates ALF (Access to Learning Funds) easily and intuitively.

Additionally, fafgenius can be tailored to suit specific student needs, giving 24 hour access to the form from anywhere in the world, and in plain English.  It can be saved at any point so the student can return to it at times to suit them.  Additional key enhancement features with the fafgenius software include student section notes, progress bar, real time validation and reminders.

And for HE institutions, fafgenius takes away the administrative nightmare caused by paper forms, assisting with regulatory know-how and the varying assessment processes on different funds, whilst providing a reporting system which meets the audit requirements stipulated by the Higher Education Funding Council for England.

Aston University’s Ash Talwar, Manager of Student Support, is one of the team spearheading the development of fafgenius: “This is a unique product which is revolutionizing applications and enhancing the service we can offer to students, making fafgenius a very welcome development for students and HE institutions alike.  It has allowed Aston to be pro-active and well prepared in order to assist students, given the ongoing issues with the student loan process, and is now also doing the same for other HE institutions.  Christina Walker, one of my team here at Aston had the idea and the know how to develop this product, and working together with Modus, we have been able to create something which is a real asset to British Universities, developed by a British University,” Mr Talwar said.

Modus Creative’s Roger Marshall adds: “This product was originally developed for Aston University students, but we saw huge potential in the concept and all became enthused by the scope of fafgenius.  This product is already really making its mark with British Universities; not only does it have the benefit of ease of use and time saving for the student, but it is intuitive to anticipate what the students and universities need, in order to give better and better student support.”
