General Professional Recognition Learning and Skills (England) Scheme (GPRLS)
Published:  09 November, 2009

Did you enter the learning and skills sector in a teaching role prior to September 2007? Are you an experienced teacher, tutor or trainer within the sector who does not hold an accepted teaching qualification? Do you want to gain professional standing without undertaking a formal teaching qualification? If you answer yes to the above questions then the GPRLS scheme could be for you.

The GPRLS scheme is one route to professional standing which does not require you to undertake a formal teaching qualification and presently funded by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills. The application process is designed to enable competent and experienced teachers, tutors and trainers to achieve professional standing and be in a position to complete the process of professional formation (via the Institute for Learning) and gain licensed status (Q/ATLS).

Please note: Applicants for Professional Recognition will need the support of two referees with relevant experience.

Once submitted your application is scrutinised by adjudicators with relevant and appropriate experience drawn from across the sector. All applicants are notified of the outcome of their submission within 12 weeks of Standards Verification UK receiving a completed application. Recent case studies have cited the following benefits of completing and achieving GPRLS:

"The process has clearly identified my strengths and weaknesses in teaching practice"

"The completion of GPRLS has given me the confidence to try new methods and adapt them as required to fit into the methods I use to engage all the learners I teach"

"GPRLS has given me the incentive to continue to professional formation and beyond, improving all the time"

For further information regarding the scheme and to check eligibility please contact LLUK's Information and Advice service on 020 7936 5798 or email advice@lluk.org

Alternatively to request a pack, and an electronic version of the application form, please telephone the GPRLS Project Administrator on 0113 2410435 or email recognition@svuk.eu
