Koolkut helps Museum Service preserve and restore

When Hampshire Museum Service needed a better way of cutting sheet materials, Sagetech Industries' Koolkut KK12 rose to the challenge.

The Museum Service restores artefacts and builds display and interactive installations for sites across the county. Materials include MDF, plywood and acrylics, until recently cut on a table saw or with a circular saw on a workbench.

Mark Holloway, Senior Conservator, Social History, recalled the problems: "Positioning heavy sheets horizontally on the table saw or workbench was a twoman job, as was cutting them. Sheets needed to be marked up before sawing, and on the bench repositioning was normally necessary at least once during cutting."

A vertical panel saw was the obvious solution, but budgets and workshop space were limited. Finding the right machine could be difficult - most saws were too expensive and bulky. The Koolkut range stood out, however: "They're remarkably compact," Mark observed, "And the prices are excellent."

The Koolkut has made a huge difference. "Sheet cutting is now a one-man job," Mark observed. "Sheets can be carried vertically, and once on the saw, they're fully supported by the frame. Previously, large sheets required at least two people." Cutting is also now faster, thanks to the Koolkut's built-in scales, and safer, too.

"We're impressed," Mark summed up. "The Koolkut is robust, accurate, great to use and excellent value for money. I'm happy to recommend it."
